2026 November PAD Challenge Day 3: "Celebrating Me/Her/She" and "Let Down"

2026 November PAD Challenge Day 3: Two-for-Tuesday: Write a celebration and/or disappointment poem.

Celebrating Me/Her/She

Hey you...

Yes, you,

the one looking back at me.

I just wanted to stop you,

gaze back into the stars

born in your eyes that candidly

sing love yous sincerely to the world

just to tell you “I love you, sincerely”

while handing you a handful of

baby’s breath for every breath you breathe,

steel magnolias for your resilience,

cherry blossoms for your joy

orchids for your self-worth,

tulips for your evolution,

sunflowers for your smile,

and roses for your beautiful,

exclusive existence

so you can smell them

while you exist

because you are the grand prize

that the little girl of you

wanted to win in her womanhood

and you are still that girl

that girl-

come hail or thunder

weather rainy or sunny

you blossom in every season

that girl-

full of brazen black girl magic

courageously sprinkling it here

confidently sprinkling it there

charismatically sprinkling it anywhere

that girl-

full of authentic girl’s girl energy

and women’s empowerment

even without reciprocity

that girl-

that birth unity in communities

even when co-parenting wasn’t

aligned in the best interest of you

that girl-

always connecting

the core dots

of your heart,

mind, body and soul

that girl-

always led by the spirit

and scriptures

beyond the open seasons

of monitoring spirits

that girl-

always activating

proverbs 31 woman within,

and love for others

so, with this love,

I willingly flower you

because I know

from a little bit of nothing

to something, no one

may acknowledge you!

Let Down

i hate to see us

let us down to where

the blood ain’t so thick

& water ain’t so pure

i mean sad, selfish

feet across the collums

of black, brown & red

men women & children

like Africa didn’t mother

our melanin & still

breast feeds us genius

& all we do now is

throw blacker shades on blacks

knowing our roots

rely on the light of the sun

to bloom

& still we gradually

drag blacks back into blacker

warped black holes

with nowhere to go &

with nothing to show

for the love of

ancient black excellence
