PAD Challenge Day 12: Victoria's Roller Set
PAD Challenge Day 12: Write a set poem.
Victoria's Roller Set
Back in the day,
Bronner Bros, Luster's and
Dudley Beauty designed
Victoria's Hair Secrets.
In Fayettenam,
it was imperative
to schedule to receive
five star beauty care
in Vickie's chair.
After draping you
in a black, red and white
salon cape, she would escort
you to a black luxury bowl
and lounging chair
with silver armrests;
If you were too short
your feet dangled in the air.
Mrs. Vickie would gently
massage shampoo and conditioner
into wet coily, dyed, or permed hair;
Rinse as she swooped the water
around the edges with care;
Comb from the ends to the roots
detangling without breakage of
fine, medium and coarse strands
as females laughed and spilled tea
about their family and friends.
For extra volume
and a little more body,
she would add a
whole Lottabody
setting lotion,
from the roots to ends,
then part in sections
for two patterns to begin.
One horizontal set,
stacked and parallel
from the front to the
back of the kitchen neck.
Another set,
perpendicular,
from the left to right
sides of the head.
Hand over hand,
she parted sections
into subsections
again and again;
Smoothing the hair
out and in between
before tightly wrapping
and rolling it around
Perm or thermal rollers
with silver clip pins;
or maybe velcro,
to easily tease,
pick and stick
with a plastic pin;
or flexi-rods,
quick to flex and bend;
or she simply spiral the rods in,
over and over again
until there were
no visible loose ends.
Then, she'll heat up
a Gold 'N Hot hood dryer
for you to sit under
from 45 to 120 minutes
until hair to roller
was 100% touch to dry for
perfect bouncy bombshell curls.
She always asked,
"Would you like your curls,
Raked to blend,
doobie wrapped
or untouched?
No matter what,
Mrs. Vickie always applied
some Isoplus oil sheen
like a midas touch
to every black queen.
